Valdobbiadene DOCG Extra Dry

Valdobbiadene DOCG Extra Dry

£16.99Price

The most celebrated of Proseccos come from the hillside vineyards of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the original production area for Prosecco. Here the hills are very, very steep.

Gemin’s vineyards here are farmed in line with organic practices. The grapes are soft pressed at a controlled temperature and with selected yeasts in an autoclave for at least 30 days with Charmat or Martinotti method. Extra Dry, it has 16g/l of sugar.

Awards:

Silver medal – Mundus Vini 2020

Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG can only be made in the Treviso province of Veneto on the hills between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Lying halfway between the Dolomites and the Adriatic Sea, the slopes have a unique microclimate – full sun ripens the grapes and high altitude and breeze ensure freshness even in the hottest summers. The steepness of the hills also means that everything—from pruning to picking—is principally done by hand.

Some winemakers are reviving the traditional way of making Prosecco – rather than disgorging, the wines are left on their lees which imparts more complexity and flavour. These are currently labelled Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG, without the added term “Superiore,” which is reserved for wines that have more pressure and bubbles.

  • The Producer

    Gemin

Guglielmo Bortolomiol left his family business, which was among the Prosecco pioneers in the 1950’s, to establish his own company, Spumanti Gemin, in the hills of Valdobbiadene (Treviso) in 1978. By 1985 the new winery, together with the storage and packaging facilities, has been completed.

Gemin was Guglielmo’s nickname and his brand Gemin has become synonymous with Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G, the best quality Prosecco. He wanted his company deeply committed on quality and reliability, without compromises.

Guglielmo dies in 2011 but the family business carries on with his daughter Paola and her husband Alvio sharing the same vision and passion that inspired Guglielmo. Since then the company headquarters have been renovated, cutting edge technologies for wine processing have been adopted, additional vineyards have been purchased and equipped with the latest irrigation technologies. Gemin has been always convinced that the future lies in quality. The family tradition continues with Paola and Alvio’s childrenLuigi, attending the Conegliano school of oenology, and the twins Elisabetta and Luca active in the company.

In the last few years the company has been focusing on the growth of its commercial network which is now widely covering Italy: foreign markets are now being strategically addressed. Spumanti Gemin is already recognized and valued in the United States and Switzerland, and now available in the UK.

The family owns the Azienda Agricola Prà dell’Ort – a niche producer with vineyards located in the most spectacular and sought after areas of Valdobbiadene such as Riva de Milan, San Vito and San Marco.
